Colere Quartet

Two Midwestern straight arrows, an effervescent Texan, and a stylish Hong Kong urbanite are bound together by a sincere and straightforward love of music as the Colere Quartet.  Gold medalists of the 2020 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition and first-prize winners of the 2019 Plowman Chamber Music Competition, the members of Colere strive for purity of sound and flexibility of style, and they awaken the sensibilities of their audiences to the magic of classical and contemporary music.

Recent activity includes a headlining performances for the Brookings Chamber Music Society, an appearance on the Dame Myra Hess Concert Series in Chicago (broadcast on 98.7 WFMT), recitals at the Illinois Music Education Conference, VanderCook College of Music, University of Northern Iowa, Arkansas State University's Lecture Concert Series, Lewis University's Arts and Ideas Series, and appearances at a variety of community and educational concerts. Upcoming initiatives include a commissioning project for a new work for saxophone quartet by renowned New York composer Kian Ravaei, to be premiered in fall 2026.

Colere is a Latin word meaning “to cultivate.”  This name was inspired by the expansive farmland surrounding the University of Iowa, where the quartet was founded in 2017, and by the group’s commitment to cultivating musical life wherever it goes.
