Kian Ravaei Commission

Colere is leading a consortium of 14 saxophone quartets assembled to commission a new saxophone quartet by American composer Kian Ravaei. Currently based in New York, Kian is a rising star of the music world who has collaborated with Chamber Music Northwest, the Seattle Chamber Music Society, the Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival, Anthony McGill, Tessa Lark, and Lara Downes. He has received grants from New Music USA, the Barlow Endowment Commission, and the Chamber Music American Classical Commissioning Grant, and his music has been featured on the popular NPR program, Performance Today.

Past Projects

World Premiere - Sprint by Austin Yip

Colere commissioned Hong-Kong composer Austin Yip to write a work for saxophone quartet and piano, entitled Sprint. Colere and pianist Casey Dierlam Tse premiered the piece at the 2023 North American Saxophone Alliance Conference in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

Shockingly Modern Saxophone Festival

Augustana College - Rock Island, Illinois

Feb 21, 2020 – Feb 22, 2020

Colere was invited to perform as guest artists at the Shockingly Modern Saxophone Festival hosted by Randall Hall and the Augustana College Saxophone Studio.  Colere’s program included works of the modern saxophone quartet repertoire ranging from favorites such as Thierry Escaich’s Le Bal and John Mackey’s Unquiet Spirits to Nina Šenk’s hidden gem Phases of Water.  This performance also featured the premiere of Alexandros Spyrou’s ephemera, a work commissioned by Colere.

Colere was honored to perform alongside the other musicians at the SMSF, which included Randall Hall, Erin Rogers, Duo Gillis Cunningham, Nicki Roman, Phil Pierick, and Bob Bucko Jr.

Alexandros Spyrou - ephemera

Colere was excited to collaborate with composer Alexandros Spyrou on its first commission.  Colere premiered ephemera at the Shockingly Modern Saxophone Festival (February 21-22, 2020) and gave a subsequent performance at the North American Saxophone Alliance Biennial Conference in Tempe, Arizona in March.  Colere looks forward to performing the work again in the near future!
